Despite the fact that bringing a baby into this world has to be one of the most incredibly magical experiences to go through, sadly, the mom community isn’t always the most accommodating.
Our experiences shape the way we see things, and many of us believe that we know what is best for others. And while it’s great to give advice, it’s safe to say that some moms can get a little offended if their opinion isn’t followed. Judgments always come from a place of insecurity, but that still doesn’t make it okay to judge and criticize others.
As long as her baby is healthy and happy, then how another mom decides to bring up her child is totally her choice.
One of the most talked-about areas of motherhood has to be the big ol’ breastfeeding debate. The saying, “breast is best” is thrown around a lot more than necessary, and while breastmilk does provide your child with lots of essential nutrients and helps to build the immune system, there are many reasons why moms may decide not to breastfeed.
Thankfully, one celebrity mom is on a mission to cast aside judgments over breastfeeding vs formula feeding. In case you’ve been living under a rock, Christine Teigen is an American model, television personality, author, and entrepreneur.
She has two beautiful kids with her husband, John Legend, and uses her celebrity platform in the best way possible- by helping to positively change people’s opinions on certain aspects of motherhood.
With a two-year-old and a four-year-old child to bring up, Chrissy knows a lot about breastfeeding and formula feeding- and the celebrity mom decided to take to Twitter in her usual unapologetically honest way, to talk about formula feeding.
“Ok I’m gonna say something and you all are definitely gonna make it a thing but here goes: normalize formula.”
“Normalize breastfeeding is such a huge, wonderful thing. but I absolutely felt way more shame having to use formula because of lack of milk from depression and whatnot.”
“I remember pumping my ASS OFF, highest mode, so often, because I didn’t trust milk was going into their mouths if I breastfed. it drove me mad to the point I could only get an ounce. an ounce!”
“People have surrogates, people have trouble breastfeeding and all you hear as a new, anxious mom is how breast is best.”
“The stress of it, combined with the guilt that you cannot do nature’s most natural thing for your own baby is too much. I dunno why this is my crusade now. I just remember the sadness I felt and want you to know you are doing it right if your baby is fed, mama.”
“Normalize breastfeeding” is great. “normalize formula” is great, too! so yeah. that’s all! normalize formula! your baby is gonna be BEAUTIFUL, PERFECT, AND OKAY.”
We wholeheartedly agree with each and every point that Chrissy made. Breastfeeding is great, but so is formula feeding! By keeping it real, Chrissy truly is one of the most inspirational moms of this decade.
